The children and the team at St. Michael’s Nursery wish legendary broadcaster Sir David Attenborough, a very happy 100th birthday.
For generations, we have enjoyed his storytelling, film making and explorations that open up the natural world in ways we could never have imagined. His comforting voice is now synonymous with compassion and campaign to protect nature. He has taught us that we can make a difference. That we are indeed part of nature itself and we must protect it.
We as early years practitioners, have the privilege to work with young minds, building a connection with nature in these crucial years. We get excited about finding bugs, read books about the wider world, gaze up at the clouds, jump in puddles, put worms back in the soil, plant seeds, harvest vegetables and go outside in all weathers.
David Attenborough famously said; “No one will protect what they don’t care about, and no one will care about what they haven’t experienced.” The children in our nursery will grow up to be citizens in the world and will contribute to shape the future. They might grow up to be parents, teachers, farmers, or scientists to name a few. They early years is such a crucial time to help shape their ideas, thinking, experiences and attitudes.
We thank Sir David Attenborough for helping us to connect with nature and to be aware of the wider world around us. We understand that just one positive change, no matter how small, can have a huge impact.
Thank you Sir and happy birthday!
