In June 2024, St. Michael's Nursery received the Prem Aware Award from the Smallest Things Charity. We are only the 2nd Early Years Business in the UK to receive this award, and the first nursery in the South West of England! The whole team have recently updated and refreshed their training to ensure that everyone's knowledge and understanding is current and up to date. We have been taking part in 'World Nursery Rhyme Week' and we've been having lots of fun singing these dedicated rhymes over the five days. The children have explored each rhyme with music, art, Makaton and sensory trays. Â We have enjoyed 'Humpty Dumpty', 'When I was One' and 'I hear Thunder' to name a few! We have had fun playing on our own 'Pirate Ship' in the garden, making bird nest paintings, fluffy cotton wool clouds and using our weather kit from Learning through Land
Thank you to all our families, friends and staff for donating their time, effort and pennies towards our bake sale this week for BBC Children in Need . We have been blown away by your generosity. We have had a fun day wearing a variety of yellow / spots / pyjamas or cosy clothes. Many a teddy bear has been painted or collaged. We have danced and enjoyed stories.
With the trees letting go of their leaves we find ourselves at a time of reflection and gratitude. We take this time to think about what makes us happy. We practice gratitude in the form of thought provoking conversational prompts. We welcomed Lucy our Speech Therapist to chat to families about her work. Kim from Torrington Dental Practice was there with interesting props ab

Kindergarten have enjoyed playing in the garden and made a giant leaf mound. Then of course it was great fun throwing all the leaves into the air! Kindergarten made Diva lamp collages in honour of Diwali. They read a book all about a familiy celebrating the festival of lights. We have noticed the moon and the twinkling stars in the sky. The changing of the clocks have taken a little getting used to but the cosy corners adorned with books, cushions, blankets and toys have m
It's that time of year where the sun is setting early, bonfire smoke in the air and there's no better feeling that settling down with some wholesome, warming food. Emma Hedge made sausage casserole with the children this week. For pudding, delicious golden cornbread. The children concentrated intently whilst using the child safety knives to cut up the vegetables. We quickly learnt that onions can make our eyes water. As the mixture stuck together in the bowl, we had to use

The leaves are turning rich colours of red, orange and gold. There's a slight chill in the fresh air filling our lungs and the glistening sun is setting just that bit earlier in the day. Autumn in upon us and it's a time when the earth, nature and animals are preparing to quieten down for the winter ahead. Â Of course this means its Harvest time. A time to reap what we have sown and to gather in our produce and plants. Perhaps a time for reflection; to remember those early sp
