We are very excited to share with you our congratulations to Emma who has received the Platinum Champions Award for Royal Voluntary Service. Emma is not only a long term member of our nursery team at St. Michael’s, but has given hours of her time to Young People vs Cancer ( previously CLIC) and also dedicated time to the Girl Guiding Association running local Rangers and Brownies. Last night we held a very special event for our school leavers. Families were invited to spend an evening on the lawn to celebrate their little superstars as they prepare to leave nursery and start their school career. Our little Ladybirds and Butterflies have been keeping cool this week splashing in the water tray, playing in the shade, exploring the woods, quiet stories under the tree and singing songs. They have been talking about wild animals and looking at books with pictures of tigers, lions, monkeys, zebras and giraffes. The children loved the chunky chalks in the water and making patterns with their fingers. More mark making was going on with fingers making patterns in the paint

Dragonflies have been learning about exotic animals this week. The summerhouse playroom has small world wild animals, masks for the children to wear, mark making areas, playdough station and pictures of animals from around the world. The children have had a brilliant week, painting large cubes of ice, splashing in the water tray, rolling balls through the tunnels and tubes, eco-printing using petals on fabric, stories under the tree and singing on the hill.

This week we have been getting ready for our Leavers' Party. We decided to make some fantastic bunting reusing scraps of material and petals. The children had great fun using the mallet to print the pigment onto the fabric. This required lots of hand eye coordination and spatial awareness. The bunting is beautiful and we know to plant lots of flowers for the pollinators so we only used a few sprigs. To help keep us cool this week, we have been painting large blocks of ice

We are pleased to introduce you to our newest member of the team...Gerald the Scarecrow! The children have been creating this chap over the last few weeks. They have been busy designing, sorting through recycled objects for features, stuffing clothing with discarded packages and reusing bubble wrap. Bees have very much been the interest of the children this week as we notice lots of pollinators in our wild flower garden and vegetable patch. Some children decided to make some beautiful flowers and bee pictures using their ideas and designs. We enjoyed a puppet show how bees pollinate flowers and gather pollen. As a plastic free nursery, we are passionate about teaching children about the environment all year round.
