This is the way we brush our teeth

During Summer term, the Kindergarten children that are leaving for school, enjoy plenty of opportunities as part of our 'Life Skills' programme.
Most recently, Kim from Torrington Dental Practice visited us to talk to the children about effective brushing techniques. Kim started the session discussing why it is important to brush your teeth regularly. She discussed different food groups and showed pictures of teeth that hadn’t been brushed. The children were keen to tell Kim about how they brush their teeth twice daily. Kim told us it’s so important that we don’t rinse our mouth afterward because the paste contains fluoride, which helps to strengthen tooth enamel and prevent decay. If you rinse your mouth, you will wash it away missing out on the benefits.
Then the most exciting bit – showing Kim our toothbrushes! “Mine is spiderman!” “I got mine, mine is electric. It has a button on.”
In small groups, we brushed our teeth showing Kim exactly how we reach the back ones, the top and bottom, ensuring that we pay attention to our gums. Kim gently guided each child individually to ensure the most effective technique.
As a follow up, later that afternoon, we collected some mint from the herb garden and crushed it. "It smells like the toothpaste!"
Thank you Kim – we will keep smiling!
