Snip, snip, snip! Dragonflies are good at snipping using the scissors. They love snipping in the herb garden and today they have been snipping the petals on the flowers. We have been talking about colour and shape. The children have also loved playing and reading stories in the tent in the woods.
Kindergarten have learnt a new word - nocturnal. We had so much fun in outdoor learning building dens and caves for our nocturnal creatures to live in. The children worked together as a group to make a large den and then sorted through photographs of animals that are nocturnal. We enjoyed the story 'Owl Babies' and created some brilliant pictures of owls, bats, hedgehogs and other nocturnal animals. We even had stories in the tent and used torches to see in the dark.
Ladybirds and Butterflies have been taking advantage of the gorgeous sunny days recently. Thank you for providing your children with warm layers. We really do go out in all weathers. We have been enjoying our singing and stories. We've had lots of fun with the chunky chalks and arts and crafts. Ladybirds have finished their beautiful Autumnal display. We just adore the little Incy Wincy spiders made with black handprinted paint.
Thank you to Kim from Torrington Dental Practice for talking to Kindergarten today. Kim talked to the children about good oral hygiene and how to brush your teeth correctly. The children contributed to the discussion and knew a lot about good and bad food and the dangers of too much sugar. There were lots of fun activities for the children to complete. Everyone has a sticker and brushing chart to take home.
We've had lots of fun for BBC 'Children in Need' today. It was great to see a sea of bright colours, spotty clothes and Pudsey Bear T-shirts! We've been busy all week baking Pudsey biscuits, making Pudsey Bear teddy faces and Pudsey ears. Thank you all so much for donating. We really appreciate every penny and we will let you know a total on Monday.
Mrs Pawley leaves us after 5 years, but she will be back to help out in the holidays. We thank her for all that she has done for us and the children expressed their gratitude making a card full of beautiful, colourful drawings.
We have been baking Pudsey bear biscuits and icing them with delicious yellow icing. They were absolutely delicious. Pudsey bear hats have also been made with their cute little ears. We think the Pudsey bear faces are so sweet. Children and staff are invited to dress up tomorrow in bright colours, spots or Pudsey clothes, (or whatever you fancy!) Please feel free to donate whatever you are able to. Thank you.
What a fun week! We have had a brilliant time making and taking part in a giant obstacle course in the garden. We climbed, balanced, ran and kicked a ball to complete the circuit. Up in the woods we enjoyed sorting through things that are orange - a pumpkin, an orange, orange tissue paper, orange flowers and then we collected orange leaves. We have taken lots of treasures inside and made an autumn treasure basket to explore. Finally, we have been making Children in Need P
Dragonflies and Kindergarten have been up in the woods this week enjoying the story 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' by Rhonda and David Armitage. Some of the children chose to make puppets and others helped to construct the string reaching the lighthouse. The children used hooks, scissors and a pulley system to help deliver the basket to Mr Grinling. We all acted out the story and played all day delivering things to our friends on either side of the hill.
Butterflies have been enjoying the book 'Stickman' by Julia Donaldson. They had great fun in the garden reading the story and collecting leaves. They even brushed up the leaves on the lawn. If you would like to provide your child with waterproofs and wellies, please could we ask that they are labelled. As the weather is getting colder and wetter, we will still be enjoying outdoor play but we will be putting more layers of clothes on the children.
