During National Picnic week, we chose the very day that rained and rained! Not to be deterred, we enjoyed our tray of fish and chips in an 'indoor picnic' instead. The children had great fun eating their lunch on a picnic blanket and there was huge delight as the picnic basket revealed the most delicious cakes for pudding!
During the afternoon, the children chose some musical instruments and sang along to favourite songs, including the 'Che Che Kula' folk song from Ghana. We also played some rhyming games and listening games, watching when to 'freeze' and count along with the beat.
When it had cooled down in the afternoon, children were invited to take part in 'Forest Yoga'. The children enjoyed stretching along to the sounds of the Native American flute. We had great fun twisting and stretching ourselves into the shapes of woodland animals - our hopping frogs were stretching up into the sky!
We enjoyed the sensation of splashing barefoot in the water tray and placing our feet on the grass to connect with the earth. Studies show that connecting with nature can reduce stress, (reduce cortisol levels), promote wellbeing, improve sleep and improve immunity.
