Helpful Hands, Muddy Boots and Green Fingers!

Children have been helping in the garden. The time has come to harvest some of the fruit and vegetables in the vegetable patch. We have had great fun digging up the carrots, picking the strawberries, collecting the apples and plums, snapping off the sweetcorn, picking the runner beans and deconstructing the bamboo teepee structures.

We also have been growing herbs and beautiful flowers. Little fingers have been separating roots, repotting plants, drawing labels, using large tools to dig and rake. Building strength in the shoulders, elbows, wrists and developing dexterity and coordination in the hands. All good skills and preparation for later using writing tools. Not to mention all the wonderful mathematical language, social skills, communication and emotional reward that being out in nature provides us with.

We are working towards our RHS Level 4 Gardening Award. We are looking to share our seeds and plants in our very own garden centre. This can be found outside the front door. Any monetary reward will go towards gardening equipment for our Wild Flower garden project.

If you prefer, you may wish to swap seeds and plants at our garden centre. We welcome any interaction and we wish to spread our message that garden is fun, important and accessible.
