The Hedgehogs Bakery was busy last week with some children baking pies and sauce. They prepared the ingredients and demonstrated how to chop safely, share utensils and take turns. We have it on good authority that the pies tasted delicious!
Our theme this month is 'All Around the World' and this has provoked some discussions about hot and cold countries, animals and their habitats, holidays and food. Dragonflies have enjoyed the playdough station and some children made little pretend pizzas. They were brilliant kneading the dough - getting those little fingers working and strengthening hands - vital as a pre-writing skill.
We have been nurturing five little caterpillars in a jar and the children have been noticing little changes to them, each day. We are very excited to see our caterpillars grow.
Children in Forest School were invited to challenge themselves on the obstacle course. They have a keen interest in climbing and stacking large items. Some children opted to balance across a 'bridge' whilst others decided they needed to climb up high; "look I'm like a squirrel!"
We have been finishing our sessions with a moment of reflection and Forest Yoga.
Another wonderful week at St. Michael's!
