We are Bright Sparks!

Principle number one in Forest School is that it is a long term process. The children have attended campfires for a while now and we always practice safe walking etiquette in and around the fire circle regardless whether a fire is lit or not. The children have been working towards lighting their own mini fires. They have been looking for sticks and twigs, "this one snaps! It's dry." They know all about fire safety, respect and the fire triangle.

Last week some of our school leavers were invited to take part in fire lighting with Katie 'Fox' and Kim from The Learning Journey.

The children had a go at striking the ferrocerium rod and perseverance really did pay off as all the children were able to produce a spark "Wow! I did it!"

Later on, children were offered camouflage blankets, tarpaulins, coats and trousers to use them where their imagination took them. Some children played hide and seek, some made dens and others made muddy face masks to really hide themselves from the group.

We enjoyed looking at photographs of camouflaged animals and it was fun to spot them. We played a game called 'Secret Squirrels' where we had to hide from the fox!
