Did you know that we are award winning gardeners? Over the last four years, we have taken part in gardening for schools award in association with the Royal Horticultural Society. We have achieved our Level 1, 2 and 3 and we are currently working towards our Level 4.
As part of this award, we have grown produce, harvested seeds and made a gardening centre for our families to make donations for plants. We have shared our apples, plums and seeds.
With an aim to sharing what we have harvested and to strengthen community links, we reached out to Petroc’s Liberty Centre. The Liberty Café is part of a social enterprise hub that students are provided with realistic opportunities to become ready for employment. The students at the college grow their own produce to cook and bake goods for member of the public to purchase.
We saw this as a fantastic opportunity for our Kindergarten group to take part in an outing and to talk about their shared gardening experiences.
Some children who attend the Green Fingers Gardening Club visited the centre along with Harriet, Michele and Katie. On arrival, the students greeted the group and they were delighted to offer children cakes to take home. In exchange, we offered our beautiful plants that we have been nurturing throughout the year and some seeds along with our Harvest poem.
We had a wonderful morning and we can fully recommend the delicious cakes, the variety on the menu and clean and welcoming environment of the cafe.
We look forward to future visits and we thank all the students and staff for making us feel so welcome.
